Goldie Boutilier presents… Goldie Montana

After seeing Goldie Boutilier for the first time opening for Katy Perry at The O2 in London, I’ve been listening to her third and most recent album Goldie Boutilier presents… Goldie Montana. This being the new nom de plume for the Canadian singer songwriter, who has previously released music under Kay, My Name is Kay and Goldilox.

Opening track King of Possibilities, has a gorgeous synth melody and a vocal that evokes Stevie Nicks. Both come together to set out Boutilier’s stall for the rest of the LP.

Neon Nuptials brings a floating soaring vocal and guitars. With nah nah nahs towards the end that might one day echo around an arena.

Snake Eyes offers jet setting lyrics that maybe illicit a sugar daddy relationship, to a more disco vibe with nice strings through the chorus.

Favourite Fear‘s intro bluesy guitar riffs remind me of a song, but can’t quite put my finger on it. Before they break into a rhythm and hushed vocal very reminiscent of Alison Goldfrapp in the Black Cherry era.

Who You Gonna Worship Now? Hints back to Stevie Nicks again with a synth that feels like it may transition into Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams at any point.

Ultimately the album pulls from 70s soulful pop and creates a collection of lovely almost cinematic music with seductive vocals and evocative lyrics that paint a picture of someone, spurned by an asshole who thought they were better than reality.
