Despite Friday night being a rather damp affair outside, inside at the Norwich Arts Centre was far more interesting as it was time for another Wombat Wombat and Howlback Hum evening. Starting with The Day The Robots Came, who are a mix of Olympians, NDX and Collider playing some instrumental numbers rather akin to Them Crooked Vultures. Then after that came the Norwich staple of Fever Fever playing to a familiar crowd before they head down to Glastonbury next week. Between bands I snuck to the bar and watched some of the Howlback Hum bands including personal favourite Master Solo.
Then back to the main room for Underground Railroad the Parisian ex-pats now residing in London, playing their grungy slow post-punk to the small (blame the rain) but captivated audience. They played through songs from 2008’s Sticks and Stones and this year’s White Night Stand. I really enjoyed seeing a cello on stage alongside the usual guitar/bass/drums set up, which added to the atmospheric yet thunderous sound.
