Saturday 2nd March was the first night of Feeder’s Black and Red tour, starting off at Cambridge Junction. With support from Berries, who two thirds hail from King’s Lynn just up the A10.
Grant Nicholas told the crowd early on that they were going to play some tracks from the new double album, along with some older songs and they would be mixing up the set for later gigs on the tour.
Starting of with the anthemic Elf which along with several other tracks would be the live debuts, partly by virtue of being the first night of the tour. Then working through tracks for Tallulah, Torpedo, Pushing the Senses and Comfort in Sound.
At a few points between songs a few crowd members would be chanting for Tangerine from Polythene, which hasn’t feature in their set for over a decade. To which Grant said they might be in for a treat.
They were not disappointed with Tangerine followed quickly by Insomnia, with a mosh pit developing to the chorus of “Drinking myself to sleep again” being sung out in full force. To be followed by too more from Polythene, but a slightly slower but equally great sing alongs of High and My Perfect Day to finish the set off.
Grant and Take would comeback on stage for an encore of Soldiers of Love, followed by Buck Rogers (the only song off late 90s mega hit Echo Park) and finishing the night with the indie night banger of Just a Day, which was the song they finished their encore on 20 years ago when I first saw them in Norwich.
