Mercury Rev, Cambridge Junction 2024

Mercury Rev carved out a genre of their own with 1998’s Deserter’s Songs, after which the likes of Flaming Lips, The Delagos and Grandaddy would join them in their new niche.

Singer Jonathon Donahue’s unmistakable high vocals are something unique across their albums, and it was a pleasure to hear in person at the Junction. Bathing in the sound of Holes and Goddess on a Hiway from Deserter’s was an absolute treat.

The more spoken word atmospheric songs from this year’s Born Horses were great to close your eyes and lose yourself too.
